Hello friends,

Some good news for you from Bottle Jack!

Spring is in full effect and we need to squeeze in our Spring Event before Summer is here! We’ll be opening the winery on Saturday, May 31st from 12:00-5:00pm and have a bunch of NEW WINES to taste. Come join us for wine tasting and our Spring Wine Club & Future Order Pick-Ups.

  • Tasting flights for $5 per person, refunded with wine purchase or joining the Wine Club.
  • Wine Club members get 4 Free tastings, so bring some extra friends and family.

  • Wine Club members can pick up Spring Club packs during the day; if you placed a futures order at the last event we will have the bottles ready for you.

Please RSVP-

  • Parking and space is somewhat limited, so we ask for a RSVP with the number of people in your group and an approximate arrival time (of course don’t be shy if you haven’t RSVP’d and want to join us).

Location

  • Bottle Jack Winery is located at 1088 La Madrona Drive, Santa Cruz, 95060.
  • We’re working on a “glich” with Google Maps so look for our mailbox on La Madrona and don’t take Eastridge Drive (or you’ll have a bit of hike…)

NEW RELEASES:

2011 Santa Cruz Mountains Syrah – Aged for over two years in French & American Oak Barrels (35% new). Full of intense ripe black plums, blackberry, vanilla, cedar, and crushed black peppercorns.

2012 Santa Cruz Mountains Zinfandel – Bigger and better than ever! Blueberry and blackberry jam with a shake of black pepper and cinnamon.  The grapes were harvested from dry farmed, self-rooted, head-trained vines in the Felton mountains.

2012 Central Coast Cabernet Sauvignon - All we’re going to say is it is gooood! You can describe the rest to us at the tasting!

Cheers!

Hungarian Oak Barrel Stave Smoked BBQ’d Salmon – Awesome!

Just tried a killer way to cook Salmon the other night using a barrel stave. Give it a shot and you won’t be disappointed

Get an old barrel or barrel stave from your friendly local winemaker.  I used an old Hungarian barrel once filled with fine Pinot, but any type works well. Cut it into planks slightly larger than your your Salmon steak. Soak the planks in a water for 1-24 hours & use a brick or stone to keep them submerged. Season Salmon with your favorite seasonings (I used salt, olive oil, pepper, dill and garlic) and marinate for 15min-1hr. When the BBQ is heated, place the planks directly over the coals, close the lid and heat for 5 minutes. Stop, have some beer, or maybe wine and enjoy the awesome smokey aromas. After 5 min. move the planks to indirect heat on the grill and place the marinated salmon directly on top of the plank with the skin side down. Close the lid and grill until its cooked through – about 15-20 minutes. Don’t forget to pair with some killer wine!

Nick’s Thoughts…

Here is what our good friend and Assistant Winemaker of Benovia Winery, Nick Finarelli thinks of the Syrah;
“Digging the wine. Like the leather and plum. Tannins are supple. Reminds me a lot of a Rhone Syrah.”
I’ll take that from someone who’s email prefix is “rhonelover”!

By The Glass @ Vino & Freinds

Bottle Jack is now being poured by-the-glass at Vino & Friends in Fresno! This is the same shop where John worked with owners Chuck & Jen Van Fleet who helped support him during his winemaking studies at Fresno State. They have a great wine store, bar & bistro and carry our Zinfandel and Firenze Super Tuscan Blend.  We’re happy to be in place where wine is shared with family, friends, laughter and love everyday.  Thanks Chuck & Jen!

Bottle Jack in Shoppers

Exciting news!! Bottle Jack is now available at Shopper’s Corner – A great local grocery store with a wine selection that’s tough to beat and a huge supporter of Santa Cruz wineries. Look for the 2008 Santa Cruz Syrah and Zinfandel next time you’re in the store. Thanks Shopper’s!
